Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use CraftPro for my homebrew or commercial brewing?
Yes! CraftPro is designed to help novice homebrewers, serious homebrewers, and commercial breweries alike.
Can I use the test strips for Wort or Beer?
Yes, you can use the CraftPro DIY test strips for wort or beer, but with some limitations. They work in liquids with less than 10% alcohol and at temperatures between 40-120°F. If you need to test higher alcohol liquids or want a more precise analysis, we recommend our In-Lab testing option.
Can I use Brewer or Master Brewer for Wort or Beer?
Yes, you can use the CraftPro Brewer or Master Brewer for wort or beer. We can test wort or beer of any clarity or alcohol content.
Should I use the DIY or In-Lab Option?
The main difference between DIY and In-Lab CraftPro will be that the In-Lab options will give you exact concentrations of each parameter, while the DIY strips will give you concentrations within a certain range.
What we recommend is that you start with an In-Lab option to get your exact water profile and test to a set schedule, such as quarterly or yearly.
Then use the DIY test strips to spot check your water before brewing. This way you can know that your water profile hasn’t shifted since you’ve had In-Lab Testing.
My test strip’s colors do not match the color chart, why?
If your test strip colors look different than the chart, it may be due to background interference in your water. This can happen if:
- There are substances in your water that the strip isn’t designed to measure.
- One or more parameters are at extremely high or low concentrations.
Try retesting to see if you get the same result. If the issue persists, consider an In-Lab test for a detailed analysis of your water.
Also worth noting, it’s important to read the test strips in the 30 second to 2 minute time window to ensure test strip accuracy. Any reading before or after that time window will not be accurate.
How often should I test my brewing water?
For our In-Lab Kit, we recommend testing seasonally to ensure that your water isn’t undergoing any major seasonal difference.
For DIY testing, we recommend testing every time you brew. This quick, affordable spot check can help ensure that your water profile hasn’t drastically changed to where it will affect the quality of your brew.
